FON participates in Erasmus+ project “D-PBL: advancing project-based learning into the Digital Era”

The project-based learning (PBL) is a type of learning where students acquire the necessary knowledge through solving open problems and participating in real projects. The approach implies working in groups, developing both technical and communication skills, excelling in creative and critical thinking. The method of learning when solving a specific problem requires students to conclude important properties and characteristics based on the literature they choose, through hands-on experience. It has been shown that this way of solving problems and discussing solutions leads to the concrete adoption of knowledge that becomes long-term, because that knowledge has already been applied in practice, on a given problem.

Erasmus+ project “D-PBL: advancing project-based learning into the Digital Era”, financed within the KA2 programme for cooperation partnerships in higher education, aims to combine digital teaching-learning with project-based learning, applied in an international context. D-PBL promotes outcomes-oriented learning while integrating transdisciplinary approaches with innovative pedagogical practices. The objectives of the D-PBL project are grounded on three dimensions: give sense to the technical skills by providing a real context to the learning path, give effective business-useful digital competencies, and integrate students in real multi-national teams.

Application of computer technology in experimental solid state physics

E-Lab Projects

The aim of the project is application of computer technology in experimental solid state physics is the development of computer and telecommunications infrastructure for modeling and simulation of physical processes in the planning and execution of laboratory experiments for Multidisciplinary Research of the Institute of Physics in Belgrade, as well as processing and dissemination of results. Hardware and software infrastructure for scientific research, modeling and simulation , control experiments, data acquisition and data processing was designed based on the concept of cloud computing.

By using cloud computing to provide a scalable IT capacity in the form of services delivered over the Internet. The project is planned to be part of computing infrastructure “cloud” in Simulation Lab of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, part in the Laboratory for Multidisciplinary Research, Institute of Physics, and partin the Institute of Nuclear Sciences. The connection between the parts of the cloud is designed to deploy over existing fiber infrastructure Academic Network of Serbia speed 1Gb per second.

Experiments will be performed in the environment of the set relating to the study of the behavior of the newly synthesized material in the biomaterial and high pressures, its thermal properties, the influence of the adverse effects of the environment on the biomaterials, and the communication between the objects of biological plant origin.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, and is implemented in cooperation with the Institute of Physics in Belgrade. The project manager is MarijanaDespotovic – Zrakić, associate professor of E-business of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences.

statistical applications for monitoring developments in the field services

Statistical Applications - E-Lab

Within the project it was implemented electronic service that allows improvement of the system for monitoring trends in the service sector. Realized web application and supporting database are linked to all relevant actors in the sector of services into a single information system, enabling quick and easy access to priority data, insights into trends in service industries based on archived data and networking of all relevant entities. Users of advanced statistical applications are Ministry of Trade and Services of the Republic of Serbia, other ministries and interested parts (citizens, companies).

System is implemented as a multi-layered client-server architecture. Due to the distributed environment, it was selected service oriented software architecture that is based on XML web service. Within the project, there is special emphasis on system security, protection of communications and  possibility of recovery through continuous data archiving, and defined recovery plans of database.

Developed application software contains a tool for searching aggregated official statistics, a tool for searching data collected in an ad-hoc research and tool for searching databases of companies that provide non-financial business services.

Making IT Trade system of Republic of Serbia

Trade Commerce - E-Lab

Within the project, it was developed statistical application for tracking trends in trade sector. Implemented web application and supporting database are linked to all relevant actors in trade sector in unique information system, enabling quick and easy access to priority data, insights into trends in trading activity on the basis of archived data and networking of all relevant entities. Users of advanced statistical applications are Ministry of Trade and Services of the Republic of Serbia, other ministries and interested parts (citizens, companies).

Developed application represents a software tool for searching database of statistical indicators in field of trade. In database, there are relevant data to Institute of Statistics, which can be assigned to Ministry of Trade in accordance with the Law on Statistics. It’s possible to search for retail and wholesale, as well as indicators of trade development with this application.

Improvement software components and quality of data in the statistical business register Republic of Serbia

Statistics Institute - E-Lab

Statistical Business Register was introduced in Republic Institute for Statistics in accordance with the definitions and standards of the EU in 2005. as a common framework for all economic statistics. During the use of the registry, users have had objections to timeliness of data, lack of “comfort” use,  lack of specific procedures and methodologies, inadequate user interface and more.

In accordance with these requirements, goal of the project was modernization of the Statistical Business Register by improving software components and data quality, as well as implementation of EU standards through forming a unique address system for conducting statistical surveys. Special attention is given to the establishment of the protection, integrity and availability of confidential data.

Implemented software solution facilitates informatic linking and use of data, as well as integration of all data which Republic Institute for Statistics has taken from administrative sources and which are refered to the statistical unit of the entity (both individual and aggregated data). New software solution supports structural analysis of complex and related businesses (profiling). It is initialed a number of changes and it has been implemented web interfaces for searching and updating data and perform administrative tasks.
